Teatro Nuovo
Salsomaggiore - Capacity: 900
The “Teatro Nuovo” (New Theatre) is right in the centre of town, in the smartest avenue, which is also the main shopping street and promenade.
Work on construction of the theatre, which was designed by the architect Mario Baciocchi, began in 1939 and was completed in 1942.
The building was heavily damaged by Second World War bombardment, then renovated, and as soon as 1946 presented two grand operas: Rigoletto and The Barber of Seville.
In 1950 the incomparable Maria Callas starred in the national premiere of Tosca.
This most central modern theatre, boasts an openable dome and holds a total of 900 seats. The structure is in the form of an amphitheater with an elegant and attractive Art Deco gallery. |
